Bantam, a new recycled plastic_low

Steba continues to work on the green and new product technologies. New this time is Bantam: the new recycled plastic from abandoned bottles that are recovered before they can reach our seas and oceans.

We at Steba, who specialize in cosmetic packaging, work primarily with plastics. But we care about environmental ethics and have been trying for years to raise awareness about proper consumption of plastic in order to be able to give it a second life.

We reserve special attention toward thepollution of the oceans caused largely by abandoned plastic waste. Therefore, we have decided to include the range of sustainable packaging in our catalog of product offerings.

Bantam, a solution to reduce plastic in the ocean

The process of making this plastic is very simple, it originates in those developing realities where the risk of ocean plastic pollution is highest. Suffice it to say that about80-90% of the plastic that ends up in the ocean comes from developing countries.

That is why the company Bantam, from which the new recycled plastic‘s name Bantam is derived, took action. Basically, a system was set up to collect and produce abandoned plastic, precisely where an organized recycling system is still lacking.

Bottles and containers are collected directly from beaches and on the banks of rivers, thus preventing the waste from entering the oceans and contaminating the environments.
The collection is done by collectors who deliver the recyclable plastic materials to an aggregation center and receive compensation immediately.
After that, the bottles are sorted and sent to production according to European and North American standards by making the high-quality RPET raw material. The latter is then used to make various types of products, for example, our cosmetic containers.

The results of this recent project are amazing: the Bantam RPET plastic produced by the company of the same name is the result of recycling more than 1 billion bottles each year.

Organoleptic characteristics of Bantam

Despite being recycled, Bantam material retains the same organoleptic qualities as PET (Polyethylene Terephthalate, a non-recycled plastic).
The only differences detectable upon close examination are:

  1. The level of transparency of the material, which decreases as the percentage of RPET used increases
  2. the color showing a slight variation

But all the other properties, which are in fact the great advantages of recycled plastic, remain extremely effective even in Bantam plastic (RPET), therefore:

  • extreme solidity
  • excellent weathering and impact resistance
  • high thermal and electrical insulation
  • ease of use due to the light weight of the material
  • durability
  • impermeability to liquids and gases
